Bringing the best of French Cinema to Singapore

Dear moviegoers,

From December 4 to 13, join us and celebrate French Cinema!
The 5th edition of Rendezvous with French Cinema, organized by the Institut Français, the Alliance française and Unifrance is particularly rich and diversified. It features an unprecedented line-up of 20 movies, unreleased in Singapore and selected among the best of contemporary French cinema.

This year, the main star will be the Cannes Festival itself, since 6 movies were part of the most prestigious festival in the world, including the Palme d’or, « Dheepan ».
This masterpiece of Jacques Audiard will be screened for the grand opening, at the newly restored and beautiful Capitol Theatre.

We are also very glad to pursue our partnership with the SGIFF Singapore International Film Festival. This collaboration is important, as it maintains the close link between our two countries regarding the seventh art. Two films will be commonly screened in conjunction with the SGIFF, « Microbe and Gasoil », from Michel Gondry, and « Breathe », from Mélanie Laurent, in presence of this wonderful director and actress.

17 additional films will be presented for the first time in Singapore and you can enjoy the program by following different trails suggested in the booklet (Cannes Festival, drama, comedy, thriller, young public) or you can simply mix it up, as each screening reflects the creativity and diversity of French cinema.

The choice is yours, and for the 10 days of the festival, you can enjoy this comprehensive selection in a record number of venues: Capitol, Cathay, Golden Village, Shaw and, obviously, the Alliance française.
To make it even more interesting, some directors and actors will personally present their movies. You will get an opportunity to meet and interact with them at stimulating post-screening sessions.

Finally, the Alliance française will propose again a real festival experience with animations around the movies.
Among these, it will organize a photography exhibition, “Actresses”, by Kate Barry, a wonderful tribute to French and international stars, and, while the Conference on climate change will be in progress in Paris, the movie « Ice and the Sky » will be followed by a roundtable with experts.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors and partners, for supporting 5th Rendezvous with French Cinema. They contribute to the necessary diversity of film offerings and participate in Singapore to the promotion of French Cinema at its best.

See you at the movies!
